Sholakia Eidgah is an open ground of about seven acres on the edge of Kishoreganj town, beside the Narsunda river. Eid prayers have been held here for nearly two centuries, and it is now known for hosting the largest Eid congregation in Bangladesh.

A popular story says the name comes from 'sowa lakh', meaning one and a quarter lakh, after an early gathering of 125,000 worshippers. On Eid mornings people arrive from across the region, some by special trains, filling the ground and nearby streets. On ordinary days it is a quiet field with a small mosque, so the real experience is only on Eid.

How to go

The Eidgah is about 1-2 km from Kishoreganj town centre; take a rickshaw or battery auto (10 min, 30-50 BDT). On Eid day roads close early, so walk the last stretch.

Where to stay

Hotels in Kishoreganj town (1,500-4,000 BDT); book well ahead for Eid.

Travel tips: On Eid arrive very early and follow security instructions; outside Eid a short stop is enough.
