Standing on the bank of the Narsunda river at Harua, Pagla Masjid is named, according to local lore, after a wandering holy man known as Pagla Saheb who once lived here. The present three-storey mosque with its tall minaret is a striking sight from the river.

The mosque is famous across Bangladesh because people of every faith leave offerings in its iron donation boxes in the hope that their wishes will be granted. The boxes are opened every few months, and counting the cash, gold and foreign currency has become national news. Thousands visit on Fridays, when the area is especially lively.
