Itna-Mithamain-Austagram All-Weather Road
A long elevated road across the deep haor, with water stretching to the horizon on both sides in the monsoon.
Opened in 2020, this elevated road of nearly 30 km links the haor upazilas of Itna, Mithamain and Austagram, which were once cut off for months by floodwater. It quickly became one of the most photographed places in the country.
During the monsoon the road seems to float on an endless sheet of water, with bridges, village islands and fishing boats on either side. Visitors ride along it by auto-rickshaw or motorbike, stop at viewpoints and take boat trips from the nearby ghats. In the dry season the views turn to golden paddy and grazing herds, and the area is quieter but still beautiful.
How to go
From Kishoreganj take an auto-rickshaw to Chamraghat or Balikhola ghat in Karimganj (about 45 min, 60-120 BDT), then a boat or speedboat to Mithamain; local auto-rickshaws run along the road (total 2-3 hours each way).
Where to stay
Basic guesthouses and rest houses in Mithamain and Itna (1,000-2,500 BDT); many travellers return to Kishoreganj town for the night.
