Nikli Haor
A vast monsoon wetland where a raised embankment road runs straight into an inland sea of water and sky.
Nikli is the most accessible of Kishoreganj's great haors. In the monsoon, from about June to October, the fields around the upazila town flood into a shimmering expanse of water broken only by village mounds, swamp trees and fishing boats.
The raised embankment road at Nikli has become a favourite viewpoint, and from its ghats you can hire an engine boat to drift across the haor, visit island villages or stop at sandbanks like Chhatirchar for a swim. Sunsets over the water are spectacular. In winter the water recedes, leaving green paddy fields and grazing land.
How to go
From Kishoreganj town take a CNG or bus to Nikli (about 1 hour, 80-150 BDT). Engine boats at the Nikli ghat cost roughly 1,500-4,000 BDT for a few hours, shared among a group.
Where to stay
A few basic guesthouses and government rest houses in Nikli (1,000-2,500 BDT), or stay in Kishoreganj town (1,500-4,000 BDT).
