Chanchra Shiva Temple
A late-17th-century aat-chala temple covered in fine terracotta, on the edge of Jashore town.
Built in 1696 under Raja Manohar Roy of the Chanchra zamindar family, this Shiva temple is one of the best surviving examples of Bengal's 'aat-chala' style, with a curved, eight-sided roof that imitates a thatched hut. It stands just south of Jashore town beside the Jashore-Benapole road.
The front facade is decorated with terracotta panels showing floral patterns, geometric borders and small figures, much of it still crisp after three centuries. The Department of Archaeology protects the temple, and nearby are remains of other buildings connected with the Chanchra Rajbari. It is a short, rewarding stop for anyone interested in temple architecture.
