Meherpur is the smallest district in the division but a big name in the nation's history: on 17 April 1971 the provisional government of Bangladesh was sworn in at a mango grove in Mujibnagar. The district also keeps reminders of the indigo era, such as the Amjhupi Nilkuthi.
