Tetulia Dak Bungalow & Kanchenjunga View
A riverside bluff in Tetulia from where the snowy Kanchenjunga range can be seen on clear autumn mornings.
Tetulia, at the northern tip of Bangladesh, is the one place in the country where you can see the Himalaya with your own eyes. On clear days between October and early December, the white wall of Kanchenjunga rises above the horizon to the north, especially at sunrise and just before sunset. The best viewpoint is beside the old district council dak bungalow, a colonial-era rest house on a rise above the Mahananda river, which here forms the border with India.
Below the bungalow you can watch workers collecting stones from the riverbed. Around Tetulia, tea gardens stretch along both sides of the highway, and the small town is a relaxed base for exploring Banglabandha and the surrounding countryside.
How to go
Buses run from Panchagarh town to Tetulia every half hour (≈40 km, 1 h, 50-80 BDT). The dak bungalow is a short walk or rickshaw ride from the Tetulia bus stand.
Where to stay
Stay in Tetulia to catch the dawn view: the Zila Parishad dak bungalow (book in advance), small guest houses and tea resorts cost about 1,000-6,000 BDT.
