Natore Rajbari
The 18th-century palace complex of Rani Bhabani's dynasty, with temples and ponds set in shady grounds.
The Natore Raj was founded in the early 18th century by Raja Ramjivan, and under Rani Bhabani it became one of the largest zamindari estates in Bengal, famed for her charity and administration. The complex at Bangjal is divided into the Boro Taraf and Choto Taraf palaces, surrounded by moats, ponds and old trees.
Visitors can walk around the faded but grand palace buildings, several Shiva and Krishna temples and the landscaped lawns, which are now maintained as a public park. It is a favourite outing for local families, and the slightly melancholy atmosphere of the old buildings suits a slow afternoon stroll.
