Goaldi Mosque was built in 1519, during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah, when Sonargaon was one of the great cities of Bengal. It is a small square building of brick and stone crowned by a single dome.

What makes it special is the decoration: the mihrabs are carved in black stone with delicate floral and geometric patterns, and the brick walls carry fine terracotta work. Restored by the Department of Archaeology, it stands in a quiet village yard among trees and is still used for prayer. It takes only a short visit, and fits neatly into a day at Panam and the folk museum.

How to go

From Narayanganj town go to Mograpara (30-40 min, 50-150 BDT), then a rickshaw towards Panam and Goaldi village (10-15 min, 30-50 BDT).

Where to stay

Day trip from Dhaka, or resorts around Sonargaon (3,000-12,000 BDT).

Travel tips: Dress modestly and avoid prayer times; local rickshaw pullers can combine Goaldi with Panam for a fixed fare.
