Gangamati Reserved Forest and Beach

About 12 km east of Kuakata's Zero Point, the beach curves towards Gangamati, where a reserved coastal forest of keora, gewa and other salt-tolerant trees grows right down to the shore. It is the classic spot for watching the sunrise in Kuakata, and in the early morning the sand fills with motorbikes and photographers.

After dawn the area quickly becomes peaceful. You can walk along the beach past fallen trees and tidal channels, look for red crabs and shorebirds, and explore the edge of the forest. Small fishing hamlets and the Gangamati canal add local colour. Erosion has taken some of the trees, which gives the shoreline a stark, wild beauty.

How to go

From Kuakata Zero Point hire a motorbike along the beach or road (≈30 min, 300-500 BDT return) or a shared auto (≈100 BDT).

Where to stay

Stay in Kuakata (1,000-20,000 BDT); a few small resorts are also opening closer to Gangamati.

Travel tips: Leave Kuakata by 5:00-5:30 am in winter to catch sunrise. Do not enter the forest alone or after dark.
